Christmas lights

The real highlight of a Christmas in Bangkok are the elaborate Christmas decorations at the many hotels and malls. Throughout the city you can find winter wonder land festivities that go beyond your expectations. Central World is always the highlight, but the EmQuartier cannot be forgotten. With a giant polar bear they are really stealing the show! You can find more Christmas decorations and lightings along Rachadamri Road at the different hotels, at the Intercontinental close to Central World, and of course at the Pride of Bangkok, Siam Paragon and Siam Square.

What to do

Besides walking around town and watching the various decorations and lights, you can enjoy a Christmas dinner on the Chao Praya River, or in one of the luxury hotels along the river. Many of them offer a special Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinner, some international, some in Thai style. However, it is a good idea to reserve for this sometime in advance. From 21st till 25th of December you can also visit the Great Gatsby Christmas Market at K Village Community Mall. This market is inspired by the USA’s 1920s and offers more than 150 stalls of artisanal crafts, and Western and local food and drink stands. Lastly, you can visit the wonderful Thailand Illumination Festival 2017 at Ratchadapisek 8 Road. A Japanese inspired lighting festival with over one million LED lights.

New Year’s Eve

As for New Years Eve, Bangkok knows how to party! With all these rooftop bars in the city, there are many places to go and watch the amazing fireworks over the city. Many rooftop bars will host parties for which you have to buy tickets, so do some research and choose which one suits you best. Furthermore, The Bangkok Countdown will host an EDM festival for 2 days at Live Park on Rama 9. With a lineup that includes Afrojack and Knife Party, it is hard to say no to this countdown fest! Central World will turn into the Times Square of Bangkok and will have a countdown with entertainment, food, drinks and many enthusiastic onlookers. Be there early to get a good spot! Or go into the New Year with a splash of luxury, and watch a New York inspired ball drop at the Lebua Sky Bar!
